Proham expresses great disappointment with the administration of the Federal government in the way Police action is impacting negatively the state of human rights in Malaysia. We like to remind the government that in 2004 when the Royal Police Commission was established, there was great public outcry on the Police especially in the way people were arrested and remanded for investigations. The commission report which was released in 2005 drew out an agenda for the professional conduct of the Police consistent with international human rights standards. The current crack down of politicians and now news editors is creating great public alarm especially in the way the arrest is taking place. We strong feel that while the Police have the right to question individuals it must be done consistent with nature of offense and in conformity with human rights standards. There is an apparent neglect of compliance to human rights standards.Proham calls on the Federal Government especially the Ministry of Home Affairs to urgently review the situation and work with various stakeholders to restore the situation to peace and harmony. It is of utmost importance that the Prime Minister addresses not only Parliament on the current situation but also the general public.Datuk Kuthubul Zaman (Proham Chairman) & Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria (Proham Secretary General)March 31, 2015
