Sustainable Development & Human Rights

Human Rights Lecture

Date: Oct 1, 2015 (Thursday)

Time: 3pm to 5pm

Venue: Brickfields Asia College (PJ Campus), PJ

Sustainable development and human rights are intricately linked. The respect for human rights has been recognized as a prerequisite for development. If people's fundamental human rights are threatened, if people lack the basic human rights of food, health, education, shelter, freedom of expression and the right to political participation, their ability to participate in sustainable development is hindered.

Therefore, strategies and policies regarding human rights and development need to be integrated to create a human rights-based approach to sustainable development that will deliver benefits to all communities.

Speaker:

Dr Lin Mui Kiang, Proham Hon member is currently consulting for UNICEF in child rights protection and promotion projects.

Dr Lin was the United Nations Coordination Specialist for Malaysia. Dr Lin also has experience in development planning having worked for  twelve years in the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Ministers Department.
