Proham welcomes PM Najib's speech at the UN General Assembly on sept 27 when he called for a global movement of moderates to fight extremism through non violent approaches based on the framework of tolerance, understanding and peace.

This is a timely speech and committment at the global level. PM Najib must be commended for this leadership as an Asean leader from a Muslim majority country which is multi ethnic and multi religious.

Proham also calls on PM Najib to make a similar call and committment in Malaysia on building a Malaysian coalition for domestic and national concerns.

We recognise that certain individuals and insitutions in Malaysian society are undermining this through their speech of hate and insensitive actions such as raids and even arrests which are being perceivied as curtailing freedom of speech and religion in Malaysian society.

Proham calls on PM Najib to host a special discussion on fostering a coalition of moderates in Malaysian society to fight extremism at home. This session must include Suhakan, NUCC, civil society,  Bar Council, key government agencies including Islamic enforcement agencies at Federal and State levels.

There must be a collective vision and committment at home to articulate a common vision and implement PM Najib's global call.

We must make Malaysia the best example for this through public policies and mechanisms which can enhance a community based conflict resolution and community mediation approaches.

We believe this in PM Najib's opportunity to provide the leadership at home, Asean (as he will chair Asean in 2015), Islamic countries and the world at large.
