PROHAM CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION ON INCITEMENT OF HATE AND PROVOCATION

It is ironical that during the Global Harmony Week (Feb 1-7, 2014) a group calling themselves the ‘Council of Islamic NGOs’ had slaughtered a chicken and undertook a blood smearing ritual including making reference to May 13, 1969. In addition they offered a payment of RM1, 200 to anyone who would slap YB Teresa Kok.

This is clearly an act of inciting hate and violence. It has stepped beyond democratic freedoms. It is clearly an offence under section 503 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and or under section 504 of the Penal Code for Intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

Proham condemns such behaviour and calls on the Police, Attorney General and Home Affairs Ministry to take immediate and appropriate action under the law.

The Police must also take necessary steps needed to provide protection and safety to YB Teresa Kok
